How To Install
(applies to a single 4 barrel
application only)
1. Pre fit the hood to your vehicle before performing any work to make
sure you have proper alignment.
2. Measure the distance between the center of your carb and the leading
edge of where your hood sets, when closed.
3. Flip your hood over and lay the isolator plate in place. Position the
carb ring area where it needs to be and slowly trim with heavy duty snips or a
die grinder, the plate until it seats properly on the hood, with at least 1" of
overlap, onto the hoods surface.
4. Using 40 grit sandpaper, sand the hoods surface and the mating side of
the isolator plate.
5. With a small amount of epoxy or auto body filler, tack the plate in
place. (FYI- Don't use too much adhesive, as you may have to remove and
reposition the plate.)
6. Once dry, refit the hood to ensure you have not locked it into an odd,
no aligning contour. (Specifically on "Race Weight" hoods.)
7. If the hood fits properly, remove it and attach the plate permanently
with either more epoxy, corvette adhesive or basic fiberglass material. |

Once your new isolator
plate is installed you have a professional looking, functional ram air
installation. If your air cleaner is tall enough to fit inside your new air
chamber, simply make a base flange to seal off the air flow. |
|
If your air cleaner is
below the isolator plate you can use a reproduction air cleaner assembly from a
70-72 Chevelle SS or 67-69 Camaro Cowl, allowing you to properly duct the ram
air. |

The air filter assembly
shown above is for a 67-69 Camaro. Used with the rubber seal it
can properly direct your ram air flow from your hood with the
isolator plate installed. These parts are also available on our
site in the steel or restoration department. |
